Grow Your Own Vegetables and Herbs
65Introduction
If you're like me, as the first whiff of spring air comes your way, you're ready to get out and start growing vegetables. There's something so relaxing about tending to the earth. It's a joy you can share with your children as you teach them while you grow your own vegetables. how to grow things. It's especially fulfilling when you can show them that it's possible to grow their own food. It's amazing how many people, young and old, think they can only buy food at the supermarket! Decide whether you want to do your gardening outside or in a greenhouse or mini greenhouse. I do a little of both. There's a raised bed in my yard outside, and then I also do a little greenhouse gardening for a few vegetables and herbs. Each has it's own advantages. There's nothing like going outside and finding your own tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, or carrots growing.
However, you do need to check the climate in your area and see what the particular vegetables you're thinking about need. Some grow best in cooler climates, while others need hot summers. Think about the soil, too, and augment yours with any recommended minerals that are needed. Even in a small patch, you can grow quite a variety, alternating a row of one kind of vegetable with a row of another. In the little greenhouse, I like to grow herbs like basil and parsley. The advantage here is that you can pretty much garden all year long so you'll have fresh veggies and herbs whenever you want them without worrying too much about the climate. You also won't have as big a problem keeping insects and other pests away from your plants as you would in an outside bed.
Whether you do your vegetable gardening outside or in a greenhouse area, be sure to start with good organic seeds and add organic compost and manure. If you use pesticides because you see that there's a need, make sure you use an organic one with all natural ingredients.

Nice hub and good timing for me as I am late starting my garden this year. I still want to get a few fresh vegetables though.
